Beena Marriage: a Pre-Islamic Arabic marriage where a woman owned her own tent and retained her independence from her husband.
Bridemen: A male attendant of a bridegroom at a wedding, aka usher.
Concubinage: Cohabitation without a legal marriage. Also the state of being a concubine.
Digamous: a second legal marriage after a divorce or death of the first spouse.
Espouse: To take a wife, to marry.
Interlocutory Decree: A court judgment that is not final until the judge decides other matters in the case or until enough time has passed to see if the interim decision is working. In the past, interlocutory decrees were most often used in divorces. The terms of the divorce were set out in an interlocutory decree, which would become final only after a waiting period.
Matricide: to kill your spouse- usually used to mean death of a husband.
Matrilocal: of or relating to residence with the wife’s family or tribe.
Miscegenate: literally to mix or blend. 1) Used in reference to marriage between people of difference “races.” 2) Sexual relations between two people from different racial backgrounds that results in the conception of a mixed race child.
Morganatic: Marriage between a person of high rank and a person of a lower rank where the person of lower rank is not elevated to higher rank and any children have no rights to succession to the higher parties titles or property.
Prothalamion: A song or poem in celebration of a marriage.
Purdah: In some Hindu or Muslim homes the women either remain in a separate part of the home or cover their faces and bodies to avoid being seen by men who are not related to them. It also refers to the screen used in a Hindu household to keep women out of view.
Seraglio: The part of a house where the wives and concubines live. Also the house or part of the house that is the harem.
Shadchen: a Jewish marriage broker or matchmaker

Zenana: The part of a house reserved for girls and women.
